Symptoms of Adrenal Stress

Very simply, the adrenal glands sit on top of the kidneys and secrete hormones which help us to deal with stress.  They are a big part of our stress defence system.  You must know that the adrenals need to be nearly non-functional before any problems will show up on a blood test, but like it’s partner, the thyroid, signs and symptoms of adrenal fatigue can be noticed and treated to improve health and quality of life, without merely waiting for your health crisis.

The following are a few of the signs and symptoms of adrenal fatigue or stress:

  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia
  • Red cheeks
  • Anxiety
  • Feelings of being overwhelmed by stress.
  • Asthma
  • Weak, brittle bones  from loss of calcium and protein
  • Moon or rounded face
  • Pendulous abdomon (hangs down like a pendulum)
  • Acne/poor skin
  • Facial hair (women)
  • High blood pressure
  • Cravings for salt, sugar, cheese, or chocolate in the late afternoon or evenings
  • Must have coffee in the morning to wake up
  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Inflammation or pain in the joints, back, and neck
  • Heel spurs
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Pitting edema (this is when you have swelling, and when you push on it an indentation persists)
  • Get out of breath climbing stairs
  • Legs feel heavy, especially when exercising
  • Overactive immune system (allergies and chemical sensitivities)
  • Auto-immune conditions
  • Moodiness, irritability, and brain fog
  • Buffalo hump (fat pad) at the upper back, lower neck area.
