There are 4 basic personality styles as described by Marston. Everyone has a dominant personality style in a given situation. Most of us are blends of the 4 personalities and our personality can change in a given environment.
Our personality style influences everything we do. This post is about the “S” personality style.
The S’s make up the majority of the population. In fact, 69% of the population are S’s. S stands for steady, secure, and stable. They are loyal, friendly, and people-oriented. That’s the good news. They are very resistant to change. They like the status quo. They do not like large groups of people, but really enjoy the company of a few.
They often want to get in shape to please another person. Their greatest fear is the loss of security. Their doctor/trainer/coach must help them to understand that losing weight and getting in shape will help them maintain their security.
They are not driven by personal achievement, as much as they are maintaining security. They do well on a health and fitness program when they have a small group of friends to do it with. When we work with an S, we always like to find a few others to form a “power team.” Their success comes when they work together and provide encouragement to each other.
They need a doctor/trainer/coach/power team to keep them motivated. Unlike the D, they are not tremendously internally motivated.
S’s are very resistant to change. They have set patterns of what they do, what they eat, and what they think. Often their resistance to change keeps them from doing new things. They do well on Dream Droppers after they have accepted the fact that losing weight and getting fit will add to their security, and the program has enough structure and repetition to serve the S well. They like consistency.
S’s like Dream Droppers because the program does not require them to get too far out of their comfort zone. They aren’t going to a crowded gym with intimidating co-eds and equipment. They are able to focus on taking their drops, taking their liquid nutrition, and making their meals.
The Dream Droppers program might as well have been designed with the S in mind. Helping these folks does one’s practice a lot of good because once they get great results, they will refer like crazy. Just don’t make the mistake of thinking that they are driven by achievement or “reaching their full potential.” They are interested in enjoying a better life experience, but really, they just want to be loved and protect their security.
